Overview
It is assumed that Master of Music in Music Education degree students will have several years of teaching in public or private school (or similar) settings and already possess music teacher certification. Students study directly with music faculty who are noted for their outstanding teaching, research, performance, and leadership in the field. The program is customized to suit individual student interests, allowing for either a research or practical orientation in focus. The music education program prepares advanced students to become deep thinkers, dynamic teachers, and innovative leaders. Graduates of the program have become leaders in music education in K-12, preschool, and community settings as music teachers or music administrators throughout Florida, the United States, and in countries around the world.
Admission Requirements
All applicants to the Frost School must submit the following items:

· Resume
· Three letters of recommendation
· Official transcripts from every post-secondary school attended
This graduate degree program also requires submission of certain supplemental materials, including:
· Teaching sample
· TOEFL/IELTS score, as applicable

Statement of Purpose
The purpose of the Master of Music degree program in Music Education is to:
- Prepare students to deepen their understanding of music teaching and learning through studies in philosophy, research, curriculum and assessment, as well as other areas of relevance to music education.
- Prepare students to advance the field through innovative and important research in the field of music education.
- Prepare students to serve the profession as thought leaders, researchers, policy-makers, and advocates in the field
Goals
The goals of the MM program in Music Education are for students to:
- Apply knowledge of music education philosophy, research or music learning theories in various music education contexts;
- Apply knowledge of music assessment practices in curriculum, research, and practice; and
- Demonstrate synthesis of studies through a capstone project in research or curriculum (thesis and project tracks).
Student Learning Outcomes
- Students in the Master of Music Program will apply knowledge of music education philosophy, research and theory in a scholarly paper.
- Students will apply knowledge of music assessment practices in a music assessment project.
- Students on the research track of the MM Program will demonstrate knowledge of music education research by completing a research study; students on the practical track will construct a special project in curriculum.
