Overview

The University of Miami's College of Arts & Sciences offers a joint MD/Certificate in Security Management through the Master of Arts in International Administration (MAIA) degree program's partnership with the Miller School of Medicine.

The MD/Certificate in Security Management is designed to prepare students to meet the various multidimensional security challenges that have faced our planet in the last two decades: from the aftermath of 9/11 to the most recent crisis of COVID-19.  For future physicians, understanding the sociocultural and geopolitical threats posed by violent human actions, natural disasters, and pandemics, is essential.  Transformational leadership in times of acute crisis demands a unique array of insights and skills.

The MD/Certificate in Security Management program is grounded in an academic, theoretical, understanding of security problems and emergency management strategies. It also emphasizes the development of the practitioner’s arts within the strategic, tactical and operational realms of international security administration.

*The certificate program is not eligible for federal or state financial aid. Contact the Office of Student Financial Assistance and Employment for further assistance.
