Combined BM/MA Program

The Frost School of Music offers a five-year Bachelor of Music in Instrumental Performance and Master of Arts in Arts Presenting and Live Entertainment Management. This program is designed for students with a high academic and musical achievement level. Both degrees are awarded at the completion of required coursework for both the BM and MA degrees.  The special conditions and processes for the five-year BM/MA Program are as follows:

Requirements

Students must be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in the Frost School of Music. The Frost School of Music will carefully review academic credentials for admission into the MA program. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.6 within the undergraduate degree program is required. Students should discuss the program and possibility of entering with an academic advisor. In order to be eligible for the program, students must be able to satisfy all undergraduate degree requirements and enroll in 6 credits of graduate courses in the fall and spring semesters in year four.

Enrollment Process

In year three of the undergraduate program, during the enrollment period, students submit the UM Graduate School Application for Undergraduates to Take a Graduate Course form.  In year four, students enroll in 9-12 undergraduate credit hours and 6 graduate credit hours in the fall and spring semesters, as approved by the advisor.  In year give, students enroll in 9 credit hours per semester at the graduate level.

A student wishing to withdraw from the BM/MA program without finishing the MA degree must complete all requirements for the BM degree.  To qualify for the MA degree, the student must meet all pertinent graduate admissions requirements, including a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA (B average) for the credit hours applied toward the MA degree.

The student is awarded both the BM and MA degrees at the end of the fifth year when all degree requirements are satisfied.
