Overview
Post Covid-19 pandemic, there has been a remarkable increased interest amongst medical students, residents, and fellows in responding to the lack of global equity in health and addressing a wide range of global medical challenges. The one-year, interdisciplinary MS degree program in Global Medical Sciences is designed to address this by providing both didactic as well as experiential learning opportunities to learn, problem solve, innovate, and better prepare for future global challenges. The University of Miami is a leader in the hemispheric region with exemplary service and research engagement and established recognition across the globe. Empowered by the Miller School of Medicine’s internationally renowned medical and research experts (i.e., Medical Education, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, Bascom Palmer, Global Health Institute, Project MediSHARE, and the International Medicine Institute), we have created a unique and exemplary program that appeals to current and future health care professionals that are local and global but passionate about expanding their knowledge of global medical sciences by obtaining a breadth of training that allows them to effectively problem solve and offer innovative solutions for best compassionate patient care globally.
Admission Requirements
To be admitted to this program, a student must have, at minimum, a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and undergraduate coursework in science, technology, engineering, and math. Course requirements will include biology, chemistry, mathematics, statistics, and advanced writing. Second language proficiency or commitment to advance in a second language is required. Individuals passionate about global healthcare services and equity are encouraged to apply to this program.
A minimum undergraduate cumulative grade point average of 3.0 is required. Applicants are required to submit three letters of recommendation and a personal statement. Foreign applicants who have yet to receive a degree from a university in the United States must satisfy English proficiency requirements by submitting their TOEFL scores.
Admission into the MS degree program will be highly selective, and care will be exercised to admit students with the highest ethical principles and a promise for future global health service. Hence, the personal statement will be heavily weighted in the application process. Our aim will be to attract strong students with a commitment to and global health services and innovation in the field.

Mission
The Master of Science in Global Medical Sciences program aims to address the global medical challenges by appropriately training healthcare professionals who are committed to global service and collaboration. This program will provide a structured and formal curriculum for medical students, residents, fellows, future healthcare professionals, and current local and global healthcare professionals who apply are invested in applying global health concepts to respond to global medical challenges and lack of equity in health. The program will provide global medicine knowledge within an interprofessional health care dynamic that encourages a comprehensive approach to achieving optimal health outcomes. .
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the Master of Science in Global Medical Sciences, students will be better prepared to serve as global as well as local leaders in various domains within healthcare. Graduates will have honed the critical thinking skills necessary for coping with and responding to unexpected future health challenges in anticipation of our continuing globalization. At the core of this program are the skills needed to find collaborative and innovative solutions to address unanticipated global health crises, reduce global mortality, and enhance lives worldwide. around the world. Moreover, they will generate new ideas for excellence in diagnosis and treatment, that will emphasizing equity and dignity in patient care. The Master of Science in Global Medical Sciences program responds to an urgent healthcare concern - the understanding of interprofessional collaboration, and prevention and treatment of disease on a local and global scale.
