Minor Area of Specialization in Finance (STEM)
Miami Herbert Business School students, as well as students in the other schools and colleges of the University of Miami, may pursue a minor in Finance by officially declaring the minor at their home school or college. Interested non-business students, before declaring the minor, should consult with an academic advisor in the School or College of their degree/major to determine if the minor in Finance is acceptable. If so, neither the advice nor the consent of either the Office of Undergraduate Business Education or the Finance Department is necessary.
The 12-credit-hour minor in Finance consists of the following (all courses must be taken within the current pre-requisite structure):
|FIN 302||Fundamentals of Finance (part of Business Core for Business students)||3|
|FIN 303||Intermediate Financial Management 1 , 2||3|
|FIN 320||Investment and Security Markets 1||3|
|Choice Course for the Minor|
|Select one course (3 credit hours) at the 300 or 400 level from Finance departmental offerings. 3||3|
|Total Credit Hours||12|
Pre-requisite is FIN 302
Business students who combine the Entrepreneurship major area of specialization with the Finance minor do not take FIN 303. They are required to take FIN 308 for the Entrepreneurship major and an additional FIN 300 or 400 level course for the Finance minor to replace the FIN 303 requirement.
NOTE: All specific coursework for the minor in Finance must be completed with a grade of "C-" or higher. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 is required for all specific coursework taken in the minor area of specialization.
