FIVE YEAR BM in Instrumental Performance and MA in Live Entertainment Management

The Frost School of Music offers a Five-Year Dual Degree consisting of the Bachelor of Music in Instrumental Performance and Master of Arts in Live Entertainment Management. This program is designed for students with a high level of both academic and musical achievement.  Both degrees are awarded at the completion of requisite coursework and other requirements.  The special conditions and processes for the Five-Year Dual Degree BM/MA Program are as follows:

Requirements
  • Students must be enrolled in the Bachelor of Music degree in Instrumental Performance in the Frost School of Music.  
  • Interested students must first meet with their undergraduate academic advisor by November 15 of their junior year to determine eligibility for this program, as follows:
    • A minimum cumulative 3.6 GPA at the undergraduate level.
    • Able to satisfy all undergraduate degree requirements and enroll in 6 credits of graduate courses in each of the fall and spring semesters of the senior year.
  • For students who meet these eligibility requirements, the advisor will complete and sign the 5-Year Dual Degree Eligibility form, found here
  • The advisor will submit this form directly to the Frost School of Music Office of Admissions, via fsom.graddocs@miami.edu
  • The 5-Year Dual Degree Eligibility form can only be submitted by Frost School academic advisors.  Students cannot prepare or submit this form.
  • This form must be submitted no later than November 15th of your third year.
  • The 5-Year Dual Degree Eligibility form must be on file with the Frost School of Music Office of Admissions before an application for the Master of Arts degree is considered.
  • The advisor will then provide further instructions regarding this degree offering. 

Enrollment Process

Students who meet eligibility requirements will proceed as follows:

In year four, students enroll in 9-12 undergraduate credit hours and 6 graduate credit hours in each of the fall and spring semesters, as approved by the advisor. 

In year five, students enroll in 9 credit hours per semester at the graduate level.

A student wishing to withdraw from the BM/MA program without finishing the MA degree must complete all requirements for the BM degree. 

To qualify for the MA degree, the student must meet all pertinent graduate admissions requirements, and achieve a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA (B average) for the credit hours applied toward the MA degree.

The student is awarded both the BM and MA degrees at the end of the fifth year, when all degree requirements are satisfied.

Application Process

The Frost School of Music offers a five-year Bachelor of Music in Instrumental Performance and Master of Arts in Live Entertainment Management. This program is designed for current Frost students with a high academic and musical achievement level.

You must be an undergraduate student in the Frost School of Music. Successful applicants will follow all instructions and meet all deadlines for application to the MA in Live Entertainment Management program. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.6 is required.

Both degrees are awarded at the completion of required coursework for the BM and MA degrees.
