Overview
The minor in Latin American Studies is designed for students who have an interest in Latin America and the Caribbean, but may not have the flexibility to pursue a major. The minor may be obtained by completing 5 (five) courses (15 credits) as detailed in the Curriculum tab. In addition, UM offers students the opportunity to complete classes which may be counted towards the Latin American Studies minor through the U-Latin America study abroad program.
U-Latin America
Students participating in this program will have the opportunity to spend a life-changing semester in three of the most vibrant, cosmopolitan, and liveliest cities in the world: Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, and Santiago. This program offers students a series of course designed to help them explore the dynamics of Latin American nations and their various cultures. With no language requirement, the U-Latin America program is the perfect way to begin to learn Spanish or Portuguese and to participate in an internship opportunity abroad. This UM designed program offers students the opportunity to complete classes which may be counted towards the Latin American Studies minor while studying in some of the greatest cities of Latin America. Students wanting to apply these classes towards an LAS minor or major should consult with the academic director of Latin American Studies for further guidance.
