The Independent Major and Independent Minor allow highly self-motivated students to explore either an existing field that is not an explicitly designated major or minor in the College of Arts and Sciences or elsewhere at the University of Miami (e.g., linguistics, Japanese) or one that is emerging (e.g., peace studies, cognitive studies, restorative justice). Coursework for the major or minor is designed in consultation with qualified faculty.
