This course provides practical procedures and materials for beginning and advancing conducting students. Students enrolled in the four-semester sequence demonstrate basic conducting techniques, demonstration of instruments and instrumentation of the wind band and orchestra, and analyze scores for conception, interpretations, rehearsal, and performance.

Frost Symphony Orchestra (FSO), Frost Wind Ensemble (FWE), and Ensemble Ibis (EI) are the premiere large ensembles that perform significant repertoire for strings, winds, and percussion. They are open to all qualified undergraduate and graduate students at the Frost School of Music and University of Miami by way of a successful audition. Following placement auditions, decisions will be made by the faculty to determine which ensembles each student will be assigned.
